GOOD TIDINGS OF GREAT JOY

Text: Luke 2:1-52

INTRODUCTION: The announcement of the birth of Christ the Saviour was made to lowly shepherds on the hillsides of Judea. The  message was destined to bring great joy to all people. Noti the text says "to all people." All men were to be included the blessings afforded by the coming of Jesus Christ, our Lord and King, He is the source of all true joy and peace.

I. THE SAVIOUR IS BORN (Luke 2:1-7)

1. In a sad hour of world history (v. 1-3)

2. In the city of David (v. 4-5)

3. The report of the shepherds (v. 17-20)

II. THE SHEPHERDS VISIT THE MANGER (Luke 2:8-20)

1. The announcement by angel of the Lord. (v. 8-14)

2. The journey of the shepherds (v. 15-16)

3. The report of the shepherds (v. 17-20)

III. THE SACRIFICE IS PRESENTED AT JERUSALEM      (Lk.2:21-24)

1. Jesus was brought to Jerusalem (v. 21-22)

2. Jesus was presented to the Lord. (v. 22-23)

3. A sacrifice was offered according to the law (v. 24)

IV. THE SALVATION FROM GOD IS SEEN (Luke 2:25-38)

1. The testimony of the Holy Spirit (v. 25)

2. The testimony of Simeon (v. 26-35)

3. The testimony of Anna (v. 36-38)

V. THE SILENT YEARS ARE REVEALING (Luke 2:39-52)

1. The grace of God was upon Him. (v. 40)

2. He astonished the doctors. (v. 41-47)

3. He was subject unto his parnents. (v. 48-52)

CONCLUSION: The birth of Jesus certainly brought joy to a world lost in sin.
