THE VIRGIN BIRTH OF CHRIST

TEXT: Luke 1:26-27

INTRODUCTION: The virgin birth of the Lord Jesus Christ is the foundation of our Christian faith. Not only is it important but absolutely necessary in order to have a perfect sacrifice for our salvation.

I.  THE MISSION OF THE MESSIAH — Luke 1:31-35

A. Christ came to seek and to save poor lost sinners.

B. Christ came to show the sinner God's love and power.

C. Christ came to satisfy the spiritual longing of the saved.

II. THE MIRACLE OF THE MANGER — Luke 2:1-7

A. The dawning of a new day — four hundred years of silence ends.

B. The darkness is passed — the Light of the world now shines.

C. The deliverance has come for those in bondage.

III.THE MULTITUDE OF THE MESSENGERS — Luke 2:8-14

A. The praise of His glory.

B. The power of His greatness.

C. The promises of His gospel.

IV. THE MASSACRE OF THE MALES — Matthew 2: 16-19a

A. The jealousy of Herod; afraid of losing his power.

B. The judicial system should be just not unjust.

C. The judgment he faces; still hearing the screams.

V. THE MOURNING OF THE MOTHERS — Matthew 2:17

A. Mother's baby so sweet, so near, so innocent.

B. Mourning, great weeping, no comfort.

C. Missing children could have been great leaders.

VI.THE MYSTERY OF HIS MURDER — Acts 7:52,1 Peter 3:18

A. The sovereign Son of God dying as a substitute.

B. The sentence of sin demands the death of the sinner.

C. The satanic power over death had to be seized.

VII. THE MEMORIAL OF MERCY — I Timothy 1:14-16

A. His sinless life, in the unleaven bread.

B, His sovereign love in His sacrifical death.

C. His saving the lost, by the gift of His grace.
