I See A Well

Text: Gen. 21:14-30--esp. v 19.

Introduction:
Three times in this chapte a well is mentioned (vv.19,25,30)
Isa. 12:2-3 says:
2 Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.
3 Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.

Ps. 84:4-6 declares:
4 Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee. Selah.
5 Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee; in whose heart are the ways of them.
6 Who passing through the valley of Baca make it a well; the rain also filleth the pools.

There are three wells in this chapter.

I. A Well Furnished (v.19)

A. When you have been cast out, it is good to see a well (v.9-10).
B. When you have been caught empty, it is good to see a well (v.15).
C. When you have been a child hurting, it is good to see a well (v.16-17).

II. A Well Fought For (v.25)A well of water was life sustaining.

A. It was water for the flocks.
B. It was water for the fields.
C. It was water for the family.
D. It was water for the future.

III. A Well Finished (v.30)

"Have digged" means:
A. It was finished
B. It as flowing

2 Samuel 23:15 And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, which [is] by the gate!

John 4:14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
