WHY THE PHILIPPIAN JAILER
DID NOT COMMIT SUICIDE

TEXT: Acts 16:31

INTRODUCTION: Over 18,000 people commit suicide every year; 90% of nerve problem is sin; lack of faith Proverbs 3:5; sometime it is disobedience; why he didn*t commit suicide.

 

I. HE SAW THE SAINTS

A. Praying - We talk about a God that can move mountains and yet we don*t have faith to get our needs.

B. Punished - 1 Peter 4:13, 14. You talk about being a Christian, that means Christ—like. -- Christ was hated, beaten— reviled upon.

C. Praising God - most people would have been complaining -my testimony people shouting in tent.

II. HE SAW SINS - Sins will:

A. Cause men to hate for nothing.

B. Cause the innocent to suffer

C. Cause men to act in haste

III. HE SAW HIMSELF

A. Unsaved

B. Unrighteous (after seeing Paul's righteousness).

     1. Thief saw his guilt being beside Jesus

     2. Isaiah saw himself unclean, Is. 6

IV. HE SAW SALVATION

A. Witnessed the power of God (jail shaken)

B. Witnessed the salvation of the other prisoner (v.25-28).

C. Witnessed deliverance himself.

Changed time he was beating them, putting them in stocks and bonds, but now he was washing their stripes.

V. HE SAW A PLACE OF SERVICE

A. He ministered to his household, (32- 33).

B. He ministered to the man of God, (33- 44).
