"THE PERFECTION OF ABRAHAM'S FAITH"
Genesis 22:3-14
I. THE CHARACTER OF TRUE FAITH (3-8)
A. It Is Always Punctual (3)
"And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his
ass, and took two of his young men with
him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood
for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went
unto the place of which God had told
him."
B. It Is Always Persistent (4)
"Then on the third day Abraham
lifted up his eyes, and saw the
place afar off."
C. It Is Always Personal (5a)
"And Abraham said unto his young
men, Abide ye here with the
ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship,.."
D. It Is Always Positive (5b)
"...and come again to you."

Savior (6-7)
a.
His Great Burden On Golgotha (6)

Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and
laid
it upon Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his

and a knife; and they went both of them together."
b.
His Grevious Battle In Gethsemane (7)
"And
Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My
father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said,
Behold
the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt
offering?"

wood."

1. By His Resolute Action (10a)
"And Abraham
stretched forth his hand, and took the
knife..."
2. By His Revealed Attitude (10b)
"...to slay his son."
III. THE CONFIRMATION OF TRUE FAITH (11-12)
A. It Is Always Attentive To The Call Of God (11)
"And the angel of the Lord called
unto him out of heaven, and
said, Abraham, Abraham: and
he said, Here am I."
B. It Is Always Assured By The Commands Of God (12a)
"And he said, Lay not thine hand
upon the lad, neither do thou
any thing unto him:"
C. It Is Always Authenticated By The Criterion Of God (12b)
"...for now I know that thou
fearest God, seeing thou hast not
withheld thy son, thine only son
from me."
D. It Is Always Appropriating The Choice Of God (13-14)
1. A Revelation Of The Sacrifice
(13)

The Ram Was God's Appointed Sacrifice (13a)

Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold
behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his
horns:"

for a burnt offering in the stead of his son."
