Giving Thanks For Victory

"But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."(1 Corinthians 15:57)

War raged in the Persian Gulf during much of 1990 and the first part of 1991. However, at twelve o'clock midnight on Wednesday. February 27, President George Bush declared a cease-fire that brought a halt to the massive loss of life and destruction of property that reached into the trillions of dollars. In every struggle or battle, someone has to lose. In this war, the United States and its allies won a great victory over Iraq. Thank God for victory in this war, but the saved have won an even greater victory through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

1. THE PERSON OF VICTORY

All the wrongdoing in the world is because of sin. Sin originated in the person of Satan while he was still in heaven. This fallen angelic creature brought sin down to earth, and, through his deception, caused mankind to follow him in his rebellion against God. Through the fall, man became alienated from God with no way ever to be reconciled to his offended God. "But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."

2. THE PRICE OF VICTORY

Victory is never cheap. Life itself, with its varying experiences of gains and losses, ups and downs, good and bad, requires continuous discipline. This requires that a person have control of himself. Blood, sweat, and tears are the price paid for victory, and this is possible only through Jesus.

3. THE PERILS OF VICTORY

In every war, there are dangerous and deadly enemies and adversaries. In the Persian Gulf War, our arch-enemy was Saddam Hussein. He left death and destruction wherever his troops marched. Thank God for the military might of America and its allies that was able to stop this madman and destroy his war machine. But, there is an enemy of all mankind - - the devil - - that is far worse than Saddam Hussein. But, thank God, through Jesus Christ our Lord we have victory over Satan.
