"Preach The Word"

BECAUSE YOU ARE SONS

Text: Galatians 4: 6-7

Introduction:

The two verses that precede our text is just a reminder of the greatness of God in performing His work in order and on time.

Verse 4

"But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth His Son, made of a woman, made under the law."

The coming of Jesus Christ to this world was just at the precise moment. In these two verses we have the whole Gospel message.

(1) His Birth: Verse 4

"God sent forth His Son."

It was God who loved this world and it was God who sent His Son to this world. Isaiah called Him "Emmanuel," meaning "God with us."

(2) His Death: Verse 4

"To redeem them that were under the law."

The only way that man could be redeemed was for Calvary to take place. We are not redeemed by His good life or by His example, but by His death on the cross.

(3) His Resurrection: Verse 5

"That we might receive the adoption of some."

If the grave had held Him, we would still be in our sins: but because He lives, we have received adoption.

Now Paul says, "Because ye are sons." Thank God for the glorious privilege just to be an adopted son.

Ill: A small orphan boy had spent the afternoon on Sunday with a family in the church where he attended. The family was such a happy family and he enjoyed it so much that he went to the dad and said, "Will you be my daddy, I want to be in your family?" After much prayer and legal action he was adopted.

So many Christians take this thing so lightly, but I want to declare that being adopted into the family of God is something worth shouting about.

(1) It Is A Declaration Of A Freedom:

"Wherefore thou art no more a servant."

I have been declared free from sin’s bondage.

(2) It Is A Dedication Of A Family:

"But a son."

I have been placed into the family of God.

(3) It Is A Demonstration Of A Faithfulness:

"And if a son, then an heir of God through Christ."

I have been made an heir of all that my Heavenly Father owns and He owns it all.

Four "No-More’s:"

Because we are sons, Paul says "Wherefore thou art no more." What a tremendous area this could cover, but let me just remind the believer of some of the "No-More’s" of our life with Christ.

I. NO MORE BOUND BY THE DEVIL

A. Every lost soul is bound by a power that they have no control over. They are in a prison that they can’t get out of.

Ill: I have met many a person who speaks about sin with the attitude that they have control over it. It is a "take it or leave it" attitude.

B. Sin is a bondage and whatever your attitude is toward it, doesn’t change it. But, when that person in bondage, turns to Jesus Christ for salvation, they are set free. They are "no more" in bondage.

II. NO MORE BLINDED BY THE DARKNESS

A. It is hard to convince a lost person that they are blinded to that which is right. They are blinded to the real need of their life. That blindness comes from the god of this world.

II Corinthians 4:4

"In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not."

B. "Because ye are sons," you are not blinded anymore. When a sinner is saved there are many things that happen, but one is that their eyes are opened to all those things they have been blinded to before.

III. NO MORE BURDENED BY THE DEBT

A. Sin is a debt that must be paid. That debt hangs over the best of us and the worst of us. We can’t get away from it because we know that it has a payday.

Romans 6:23

"For the wages of sin is death."

B. A person will carry that burden of the debt until they are willing to lay it at the cross.

But, what a glorious feeling it is just to bring that load of sin to Jesus and let Him remove it as far as East is from the West.

IV. NO MORE BANDED FROM THE DWELLING

A. The Door of Heaven is closed against those who havenever received God’s gift.

Just the thought is awful. To think that you are shut out from heaven.

Ill: This was the condition in Noah’s day. When God had exhausted all means and the people only laughed about, He closed the door and judgement came. They cried for Noah to open the door, but Noah replied that he did not close it and that he could not open it.

B. This is what puts joy in a Christian’s heart. Because of trust - Jesus, the Door, is open, the road is clear and there is a mansion waiting on the other side.

John 14:2

"In my Father’s house are many mansions."
