"Come unto me, all ye that
labour and are heavy laden, (Matthew 11:28) Many are the difficulties along the pathway of life. And, Christians are not exempt from trouble, sickness, heartbreak, and loss. Many are suffering today because of adverse circumstances that they seem to have no control over, and that they did nothing personally to create. While there may be a million questions as to why things happen and how they might be overcome, avoided, or even undone, our only real answer is found in the very present and powerful help of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Jesus sends us an Invitation to come unto Him! 1. THE INVITATION IS FROM THE PERSON OF CHRIST Christ says, "Come unto Me." This Is an invitation to come unto a person. Jesus is a person - - a person who knows what your problem is because He was tempted and suffered in all points as you are. Therefore, He can be touched with the feeling of our infirmities (see Heb. 4:15). We are never alone when we accept the invitation to come to Jesus.2. THE INVITATION IS TO ALL PEOPLE Jesus invites all who are laboring under the guilt of sin to receive forgiveness through His sinless blood, which He shed for the remission of sin. Jesus continues to invite Christians, even after they are saved, to let Him help them with the battles they are fighting and losing. Jesus promises to give victory. "We are more than conquerors through Him that loved us" (Rom. 8:37). 3. THE INVITATION IS A GREAT PROMISE Isn 't rest wonderful? That is just what Jesus promises to those who come to Him! When the storms of life are raging, there is rest in the arms of Jesus. When the enemy is camped around us, there is safety in the shelter of the arms of Jesus. When the labors of life become too much for us to bear, Jesus makes our load easier. He makes the yoke easy, and the burdens light (see v. 30). God help us all to learn of Him, to come to Him, and to receive of Him on our journey of life. |
