"Preach The Word"

What About The Future?

"Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away* (lames 4:14)

We should never let yesterday's regrets or the fears of tomorrow's uncertainties rob us of the Joys of today. It is true that there is no way for us to know exactly "what shall be on the morrow," but God has fixed It that way for our good. God doesn't hide the future from us in order to cast us into fear and panic. He does it to draw us to Himself, that He might protect us, provide for us, and teach us to live by faith. Living by faith is not a guessing game of stumbling In the dark, but a life of constant contact with Jesus through the Spirit.

1. WHAT ABOUT THE FUTURE OF THE WORLD?

We constantly hear about world conditions. The news media brings us bad news every day, all day. In the home, on the Job, and on the street, people often ask, "How much worse can it get?" ‘What is the future of the world?" God alone knows the answers to these questions, but He has provided an ark of safety for all who trust Him and leave the future to Him.

2. WHAT ABOUT THE FUTURE OF THE CHURCH?

The church is the subject of much discussion these days. Well, what about the church? Is it going down or going out of business? Will the church as we know it cease to exist? No! The church is the only sure organization on the earth. Jesus said, "Upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it" (Matt. 16:18). The church is going to be raptured - - caught up - - to meet Jesus in the air and be forever with Him (see 1 Thes. 4:17).

3. WHAT IS MY FUTURE?

After all has been said and done about the world at large, about the church, and about everyone else, the thing that matters most is, "What about me?" "How much of my future can I know and control?" First, we can know about our salvation, and this determines the eternal destiny of our soul. Second, we can know that whatever life may bring our way, God is working It for our good (see Rom. 8:28). Third, we can know that our God still rules in the affairs of man (see Psa. 83:18). So, trust in the Lord because He is our future.
