This is the time of year when we place a special emphasis on the resurrection of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Jesus said, "I am He that liveth, and was dead; and behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen" (Rev. 1:18). What a declaration! This is the statement of our almighty God and Savior, Jesus Christ. It will take eternity to realize just what happened when Jesus arose from the dead, but here are a few thoughts for our consideration. 1. THE DISSOLVING OF DOUBT Belief in the resurrection of Christ is essential to salvation. Romans 10:9 says, "If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." The resurrection of Jesus Christ has been established beyond any doubt. The empty tomb, the testimony of His followers, His personal appearances, and the sending of the Holy Ghost at Pentecost are just a few of the ways our Lord confirms our faith and destroys our doubts. 2. THE BENEFITS DEPENDENT ON THE RESURRECTION Every part of our salvation is dependent on the resurrection. "If Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain" (1 Cor. 15:14). The resurrection of Christ confirms every statement ever made about Him, both by the prophets and by Himself. Our justification, our perseverance, and our own future resurrection are all dependent on Christ's resurrection. 3. THE DUTIES ARISING FROM HIS RESURRECTION Our duties, as saved people, begin with a newness of life. Having received a spiritual resurrection at the new birth. we are to be conformed to His resurrection and walk in newness of life. We have died to sin, and we have Christ's resurrection life in us. We must now be transformed into His likeness, and live by the pattern which His resurrection life exhibits to us. "As He is, so are we in this world" (1 John 4:17). We do this by looking unto Him for our strength. He lives! |
