Text:II Corinthians 1:3-8 INTRODUCTION: In verse 3, Paul talked about the God of all comfort. and these assuring words probably meant more to that early church than they do to the modern Christians, because they were going through a time of great suffering. Food is never good until you get hungry. A coat never feels good until it gets cold. Comfort is never appreciated until you are troubled. I. The Reality Of Comfort--verse 3. God only deals in reality, and I would like for you to notice in this verse the ability of God to comfort His children. A. He is the God of miracles--He is the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ--not some German soldier. B. He is the God of mercies. 1. Redeeming mercies. 2. Regenerating mercies. 3. Reviving merciesII. The Receipients Of Comfort--verse 4. Paul tells of a God who comforts us (Gods children), not sinners. The Lord never gives comfort or assurance to those who are living in sin. A. He comforts those who suffer with Him--verse 5. B. He comforts those who are in sorrow--verse 8. III. The Reason For Comfort--verse 4 God never comforts us just to make us feel good. But, as the verse tells us, that we mightbe able to comfort others. A. Those who have been tried can comfort others who are being tried Job. B. Those who have been troubled can help others who are in trouble--Acts 16:30-32. IV. The Record Of God's Comfort A. In His person--called Lazarus forth B. In His pages--I Thessalonians 4:18. C.
