THE FLIGHT OF THE FAITHFUL

Text: I Tim.6:7-21

Introduction: In these verses Paul takes up the teaching of Jesus and warns young Timothy about the God of Mammon. In verse 9 they will be rich and fall into a snare. In verse 10 the love of money is the root of all evil. In verse 17, charges those who are rich not to be high-minded. In verse 11, he said "flee these things". There are some things we dare not flee from (battles, burdens), but, if we don’t flee the things in this context, we will be ruined.

I. FLEE BECAUSE OF YOUR FAITH - VS. 10

He tells us in this verse that some have erred from the faith.

A. Erred from the beauty of faith - Rev. 3:17.

B. Erred from the burden of faith - you cannot touch your neighbor’s heart with anything less than your own heart.

C. Erred from the blessings of faith - Hebrews 11.

II. FLEE BECAUSE OF YOUR FRAILTY - VS. 7

We brought nothing into this world and we will not take anything out.

A. We won’t take filthy Lucre. Heb. 9:27. The Arabs load the camels in the morning and drive them across the desert sand but at night the camels are unloaded again.

B. We won’t take Loved Ones out. Pray for them, love them, help them now because they will soon be gone.

C. Won’t take lost opportunity. The books will be closed forever.

III. FLEE BECAUSE OF YOUR FUTURE - VS. 19

Lay up a good foundation against that day.

A. Foundation of good Words - Matt.12:36.

B. Foundation of good Works - I. Cor. 3:11-14.
