"Preach The Word"

"The Richest Man in the World"

Philippians 4:18
"But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received
of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an
odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, well-pleasing
to God."
The world has seen many rich men, but the Apostle Paul
stands out forever as the richest man who ever lived—rich
in the things of everlasting value.
Picture him here in a Roman prison, chains about his legs,
his face pallid, his hair grey, his body weak. Yet he declares
that he has everything. Four things about him tell us
of his riches.

I. HE WAS RICH BECAUSE HE HAD RECEIVED A PARDON FOR
HIS SINS

1. It is a glorious thing to have your sins forgiven.
2. Forgiveness of sins brings peace with God.
3. A man is poor whose sins have not been forgiven—
he is rich if they have been forgiven.

II. HE WAS RICH BECAUSE HE HAD A GREAT WORK TO DO
1. God's work is an important work.
2. God's work is the only lasting work.
3. God's work pays the richest dividends.

III. HE WAS RICH BECAUSE HE HAD ALWAYS THE CONSCIOUS-
NESS OF GOD'S PRESENCE

Acts 27:23 — "For there stood by me this night the
angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve."

IV. HE WAS RICH BECAUSE HE HAD AN ETERNAL HOME
AWAITING HIM

II Timothy 4:6-8 — "For I am now ready to be offered,
and the time of my departure is at hand. I have
fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have
kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a
crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous
judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only,
but unto all them also that love his appearing."
Anyone is rich who has these four things.
