"Preach The Word"

"We Haven't Seen Him But We Love Him"

I Peter 1:8
"Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now
ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeak-
able and full of glory."
For over 1900 years men and women have followed Jesus
Christ. They have never seen Him with the eye of flesh,
but they have seen Him by faith. They have never felt the
touch of His physical hand, but by faith they have felt His
presence very near. They have never heard the intonations
of His voice, but in the stillness of the night they have heard
Him whispering their names.

I. WHY OUGHT WE TO LOVE THIS UNSEEN SAVIOUR?
1. Because He first loved us.
(a) He loved us while we were sinners.
(b) He loved us when we didn't love Him.
(c) He loved us enough to die for us.
2. Because He satisfies every quest of the soul.
(a) There is man's quest for God.
(b) There is man's quest for forgiveness of sin.
(c) There is man's quest for happiness.
(d) There is man's quest for comfort.
(e) There is man's quest for eternal life.

II. How CAN WE SHOW OUR LOVE FOR THIS UNSEEN SAVIOUR?
1. By accepting Him as our personal Saviour.
2. By surrendering to Him as Lord and Master.
Luke 19:10
"For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that
which was lost."
Many men have gone on great missions, Alexander and
Caesar on missions of conquest, Plato and Socrates in search
of knowledge, Columbus looking for a new route to India,
philanthropists on missions of mercy.
But Jesus came upon the greatest mission of any man.
He came to die for lost sinners. He came to "seek and save."

I. HE SEES THE SINNER
He saw Adam and Eve; He saw Cain; He saw Judas.
Job 31:4 — "Doth not he see my ways, and count all my
steps?"
I Samuel 16:7 — "But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look
not on his countenance, or on the height of his stat-
ure; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth
not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward
appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart."

II. HE SYMPATHIZES WITH THE SINNER
Hebrews 4:15 — "For we have not an high priest which
cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities;
but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet
without sin."
Matthew 9:36 — "But when he saw the multitudes, he
was moved with compassion on them, because they
fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having
no shepherd."

III. HE SEEKS THE SINNER
Examples in Luke 15

IV. HE SPEAKS TO THE SINNER
1. He speaks through the Bible.
Isaiah 1:18
Isaiah 55:7
Matthew 11:28
John 6:37
Revelation 22:17
2. He speaks through His Spirit.
3. He speaks through the Gospel.
4. He speaks through sorrow.

V. HE SAVES THE SINNER
Matthew 1:21 — "And she shall bring forth a son, and
thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his
people from their sins."
I Timothy 1:15 — "This is a faithful saying, and worthy
of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the
world to save sinners; of whom I am chief."

VI. HE SATISFIES THE SINNER
John 4:14 — "But whosoever drinketh of the water that
I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that
I shall give him shall be in him a well of water
springing up into everlasting life."
Jesus is seeking you—to save and satisfy you—both here
and hereafter.
