"The Tragedy of a Wasted Life"
Luke 15:13
• "And not many days after the younger son gathereth all
together, and took his journey into a far country, and there
wasted his substance with riotous living."
The tragedy in the story of the Prodigal Son is the tragedy
of waste. In the far country he wasted his money, his char-
acter, his health, his influence, his opportunities for doing
good, his very life.
There are many examples of waste all around us, but
the greatest tragedy in the world is the tragedy of a wasted
life.
I. WE HAVE JUST ONE LIFE TO LIVE
"It is appointed unto men once to die." No one can
relive his life. If we don't live this life rightly, the
opportunity is forever gone.
II. MANY THINGS CALL US TO LIVE THE BEST LIFE
1. God calls us to live the best life.
2. Happiness calls us to live the best life.
3. The needy world calls us to live the best life.
III. IT IS TRAGIC TO LIVE THIS LIFE WITHOUT CHRIST
1. It is tragic in time—in this present world.
2. It is tragic in eternity—the life to come.
W. IT IS GLORIOUS TO LIVE THIS LIFE FOR CHRIST
1. It is glorious in time—the present world.
2. It is glorious in eternity—the world to come.
