"Preach The Word"

The Reality Of Death

Text: Hebrews 9:27 says, "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment."

Introduction: Death is actually the separation of the soul and spirit from this human form in which we all dwell for a while.   A person should not be obscessed with the thought of dying, but on the other hand, prepration must be made for that day, due to the fact we do not know when or how it will occur.  Let's think about several questions concerning death in the form of one word for each thought.

I.  Who?
Who are those who death will affect?

A. All Ages- ....both old and young alike...
B. All Classes-...rich and poor, aristocrat and pauper.....
C. All Nationalities-....all must prepare for death not matter what their                                    nationality.

II.  How?
How does death come?

A. Slowly--...some do not die until they are well advanced in years.....
B. Suddenly--...car wreck, heart stops, etc.....
C. Surely-....appointed unto men once to die...

III. Why?
Why is physical and spiritual death man's portion?

Romans 5:12 states, "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned."
The sin of our first parents in the Garden of Eden brought death upon the human race.

Through the first Adam man was "fouled up" but through the second Adam (the Lord Jesus) man can be "fixed up". 1 Corinthians 15:22 says, " For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive."

IV. Where?
There are only one of two places to go--heaven or hell.

A. Heaven

A place of bliss, bounty, and beauty.

B. Hell

A place of  suffering, screaming, and separation from all that is good and holy forever.

One will go to hell if he does nothing about his sin, but he can go to heaven if he will turn from sin unto the Lord Jesus Christ.

V. Why Not

A. Why not turn (Lk.13:3)

B. Why not trade- a life of seperation from God for one that can know                                closeness to God through the new birth.

B. Why not trust (Acts 16:31)

Conclusion:

This coffin in front of us today reminds us that death is a reality and that we should make the proper preparation for the day we leave this world for another country.  Where you go will depend upon what you do with the Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 4:12).
