CHRISTIAN RESURRECTION

I Thessalonians 4:1-18

I. THE CLEANLINESS v. 1-7

1. Perfection v. 1. We should perfect ourselves.

2. Purging v. 2-3. He cleanses us with salvation, then we cleanse ourselves daily by consecration.

3. Passion v. 4. Passion out of control means trouble.

4. Problems v. 5-6. God's judgment will fall upon all who misused their bodies in sinful selfish desires.

5. Purity v. 7. We are called to be holy. Our bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit.

II. THE COMMAND v. 8-12

1. Disobedience v. 8. If anyone breaks the laws of God, he will have to pay for it. Man has always defied God in his daily life.

2. Demands v. 9-10. God gives us the example to follow. As we follow this, we influence others.

3. Design v. 11-12. Caring for self and living right. Earning the respect of others.

III. THE CONCERN OVER CHRIST'S COMING v. 13

Christ does not want us ignorant about His coming.

1. Ignorant of His promises - John 14:1-3

2. Ignorant of His plan - I Thessalonians 4: 13-18

3. Ignorant of His person - I Thessalonians 4: 16.

IV. THE COMPANY v. 14-15

1. Dead Christians v. 14. All who have died in the Lord will return with Christ in the clouds.

2. Alive Christians v. 15 Those Christians alive when Christ returns will arise to meet Him in the air. Will be with the Lord forever.

V. THE CHRIST v. 16

1. Awaken - "For the Lord shall descend from heaven with a shout."

2. Alert - "And with the voice of the archangel."

3. Authority - "And with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall arise first."

VI. THE CHANGE v 17

1. Trip - "Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air."

2. Triumph - "And so shall we ever be with the Lord." This is the eternal life spoken of in John 3:16.

VII. THE COMFORT v 18

1. Comfort us in time of sorrow

2. Comfort us in time of suffering

3. Comfort us in time of separation (death)

Comfort one another with these words. "He's coming again." All problems of this life will soon be forgotten.
