Maximum Marriage With Minimal Misery
Text: Eph. 5:25
Introduction:
I have done a lot of counseling where people no longer love their husband or wife.
I'm preaching on the home and where the action is. We should desire to have a
sanctified home before the church.
Satan has a five fold plan:
1. Dethrone God
2. Degrade man (Low as an animal)
3. Deny Christians morale.
4- Destroy families
5- Dominate the world.
Ancient Rome--Ship of Matrimony--were 12 families.
Four are overboard, six stay on deck, but are miserable.
Two families are well for God.
What do we learn about marriage? From the Word of God we need to see two things
mainly: God's way for wives and God's work for husbands.
I. God's Way For Wives (Faithful fellowship)
A. God's Requirement-v.22
God requires submission of the woman. She is to voluntarily place herself under the
authority of her husband. A carnal minded person will not do that as she
should. Submission is not just an outward matter but an inward one also.
B. The Reason-v.23
In purpose there must be order. Compare 1 Cor. 11:2-3. God has a chain of
command. Subjection does not mean inferiority. See Galatians 3:28. The
devil is in favor of uni-sex. You run into problems in several ways when you do not follow
God's chain of command:
1. God
2. Spiritual problem
3. Warps her husband- man is initiated. She becomes a woman that will not
be his completer but his crippler.
4. Problems with children- you will have authority
5. Trouble with yourselves
6. Result- v.24- Important- evangelize the world
Submission does not take away freedom. A train is free to
move when it is on the track.
II. God's Work For Husbands (loving leadership)
A. His Position v.23(head of the wife-leader-not browbeater) Christ
became head over His church by loving and dying; He gave Himself for His bride.
B. His Pattern v.23-24 "As" you want to go to your wife submit-
with Bible. How many times have you failed
due to a lack of patience and understanding? You will not gain her submission by
craming the Bible down her throat. Subjection follows submission to the Lord.
C. Practice Love v.25(This is a harder command than submission).
1. A selfless love (give up rights to yourself and just what you want)
2. A sacrificial love (v.25) (We are to die to ourselves).
Homes need one wedding and two funerals. We fuss too much!
3. A sanctifying love(vv,26-27)
4. A satisfying love (v.28)
5. A supreme love (v.30).
Conclusion:
If you treat her like a queen, she will treat you like a king. Intercede for her,
teach and protect her.
