"When You Believe The Wrong Things"
Text: Acts. 27:11,25
Introduction:
In verses 10 and 11 the centurion was given some advice from the Apostle Paul and the
owner of the ship. The centurion listens to the advice of the owner of the ship, more than
that of the Apostle Paul. The result was the great calamity that fell on the voyage. There
are many voices today that would promote bad decisions in our lives. The voices of:
1. The Sickening Press- The liberal press of our day spews out the venom
of deception daily.
2. The Spin of Politicians- I am glad the elections are over and we don't
have to listen to the lies of liberal politicians.
3. The Sinful People- So many people believe the information they gather
from ungodly people.
4. The Silly Preachers- A lot of people are being deceived by the preachers
who are not called of God. Isaiah called them, "Dumb
dogs that cannot bark."
Let me give you five things that will happen when you believe the wrong
things:
I. You Lose Your Discernment (v.13)
They thought because the south wind blew softly, it meant it was alright to sail. So many
people look at the conditions at the time instead of heeding the Word of God.
II. You Invite Bad Circumstances (v.14)
Their bad decisions brought on the perils of a terrible hurricane.
III. You Yield Control Of Your Life (v.19)
They threw the tackling of the ship overboard. That included the sails, anchors and the
cables. By doing so they lost control of the ship. How many people do you know, who has
lost control of their life because of bad information they have gathered from among other
sources?
IV. Your Direction Disappears (v.20)
The lost hope that their lives would be saved. There are so many today who feel so
hopeless in their lives. They do not understand God's will for them. They are wandering
from one thing to another trying to find satisfaction.
V. You Will Listen The Next Time (v.23-24)
Paul gave them a message from the Lord that there would be losses to the ship, but no one
would be hurt. How many people do we know who always have to learn the hard way?
Application:
Take heed how you hear--take heed what you hear.
