John 6:67 Intro: Our verse of scripture has a very cutting question within it that was asked of the disciples by Jesus. In order to understand this question we need to examine the background. Up to this point in the ministry of Jesus, people had flocked to Him. They had witnessed His healing touch of the nobel man's son, His miraculous feeding of 5,000, His teachings to the disciples, and His compassion to the woman at the well. But, now, Jesus begins to reveal the supreme sacrifice He will make. He begins to talk about the shedding of His blood and the breaking of His body. This caused many to turn their backs on Him. They had gone away. Now, Jesus is asking His disciples this very cutting question. He wants to know if they are going away, also. Sadly, many modern Christians are much like this. While times are going well, they gladly follow Him. But, let times get a little tough, and they begin to head the other way. Especially when matters such as sacrifice, commitment, and responsibility are mentioned. These areas tend to scare them away from their walk with Christ. The question I would like to ask of you is this. When times get hard in you life will you also go away? Allow me to ask THREE TOUGH, PENETRATING QUESTIONS of you that hopefully will remain with for the remainder of you life. Three questions that may keep you from making such a decision. I. Where Will You Go? A. Religions of rituals. B. Shrines of science. C. Enjoyment of entertainment. D. Foolishness of faithlessness. II. What Will You Find? A. Food, fun, and fellowship. B. Hurt and heartache. III. Will You Ever Return? Sin will take you farther than you want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay, cost you more than you want to pay. Conclusion: I hope you understand that just because you are called to preach, pastor, serve as a missionary, or to serve in some other area, you are not above being seduced into such a decision. Just because you are enrolled in a Bible School there is no guarantee that you won't fall by the wayside. The only sure way to continue to march with Jesus is to keep your eyes upon Him and off of the world.
