TEXT: I Timothy 5 INTRO: Paul is writing to young Timothy about the present problems in the local church there. He gives him some proceedures that he wants him to follow: I. PROCEEDURE OF WORDS. V. 1-2 A. This young man is told never to speak to an older man with sharp or disrespectful language. (ILL.) Deacon, usher, staff member, teacher, preacher Treat older women like your mother and young women as sisters without fornication or adultery. II. PROCEEDURE OF WIDOWS. V. 3-16 A. There was a problem with women causing problems here Note: 1. Who is a widow? -- Someone who is left alone because of a death to husband. 2. Widow indeed? -- One who has no one but the Body of Christ. V. 3, 5 3. Who takes care of a widow? Her family -- Sons, daughters, nephews, etc. V. 4, 8, l6a 4. Who does for a widow indeed? -- the church family. V. l6b 5. How old is she to be?-- 60--- V. 9, 11 6. What about younger ones? -- they marry V. 14 7. Not divorced -- V. 9 III. PROCEEDURE OF WORTH. v. 9 A. Note the one who rules well (faithful to teach-preach) is worth twice as much. (ILL.) Ox working in field. IV. PROCEEDURE OF WALK. V. 19-25 A.
