I SING BECAUSE
Text: Psalm 96:1 98:1 149:1
Introduction Singing is as universal as any activity individuals participate in. The Bible is filled with instances of singing. It was an integral part of the Worship of Israel and now is an integral part of the Worship of the Church. Lest I miscalculated Singing and Songs are mentioned in some form 303 times. Our phrase "Sing Unto The LORD" appears on 17 occasions, 10 of them in the Psalms. I didnt figure you would want me to deal with all 17 times! It was interesting to me that this phrase appeared on three occasions in those Psalms with the addition of the phrase, "a new song" The word "new" is the Hebrew word "chadash" and it means that which is fresh. In seven of the nine instances where this phrase appears it is the word, "chadash" Two other times both in the Revelation 5:9 and 14:3 it appears from the word "kainos" and means basically the same thing but with the addition to the referring to of an age or time period. The essence of the phrase in our texts in Psalms is not new as to unknown or unheard of before but new in that it is different from the previous. Whereas in Revelation it is new because it has never before been heard. I want us to look briefly at the Three Occasions in our text and find some interesting connections for the Christian. Squire Parsons wrote and sings a song entitled "I SING BECAUSE" in it he gives Reasons for Rejoicing. Note in our Psalms. I. I SING BECAUSE OF MY EXPERIENCE OF GRACE Psalm 96:1
II. I SING BECAUSE OF MY EXPRESSIONS OF GRATITUDE Psalm 98:1
III. I SING BECAUSE OF MY EXPECTATIONS OF GLORY Psalm 149:1
4. A GLORIOUS REST
