HERE IS A SAMPLE MINI-SERMON BY TOM WALKER

In John 6:44 Jesus said, " No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day." What a blessing it was when God’s tug came upon my heart many years ago, drawing me unto salvation. If He had not taken the first initiative in my personal salvation, then you and I would still be lost today. I thank God for every "heavenly tug" that pulls me God-ward and heaven-ward. There are still tugs and drawings in the Christian life. There are several good tugs I am going to mention in this brief study.

I. The Tug Of Conversion- Jesus made it clear in John 6:44 that no man can come to Jesus unless he is drawn by God the Father. This suggests that man is so totally depraved. The old nature does not motivate a person to come to God, thus, it takes God doing a work to bring the sinner to Himself. It is dangerous to neglect God’s pull to salvation, due to the reality that one day He may draw the last time.

II. The Tug To Comply- Read 2 Peter 1:4. There is a part of me that seeks to keep me in line with the will of God for my life. That is the "divine nature" on the inside drawing us toward holiness and godliness in daily living. I recognize there is a part of me that would shrink from the will of God, especially if God were to ask something that seemed extremely difficult. Still, the desire to comply with the will of God, as revealed in His Word, is much stronger than the desire for that which is wrong. Those who adhere to truth and co-operate with it, loves the Lord Jesus Christ ( Jn. 14:15).

III. The Tug To Confess- Read Romans 10:9 and Rom. 1:16. When it comes to things with which we are ashamed to identify, we are slow to confess association with them. But, that should never be so of our blessed and wonderful Lord. We should confess him quickly, gladly, and unashamedly. He has never done anything with which we should be ashamed to identify. Whatever He does is right (Rom. 8:28).

IV. The Tug To Call- Read Psalm 50:15. Prayer for the Christian should be as natural for him in the spiritual realm as it is to breathe air into our lungs in the natural realm. Thank God for the tug to call!

V. The Tug To Continue- Read Gal. 6:9. We cannot quit in the Christian journey. Any old dead fish can float with the current but it takes one with life to fight the current and keep swimming.

Another Mini-Sermon Example From Tom Walker

Read Acts 4:13-22. There will be the time in your life when you will have to decide whether you are going to listen to God in a matter or take heed to what men demand of you. After being questioned, Peter and John were told not to speak or teach at all in the name of the Lord Jesus (4:18). The religious leaders of that day had great power, especially the Sanhedrin Council.

Would Peter and John "shut up" or would they "speak up"? What you would do would be determined by how intimate your relationship is with the Holy Spirit of God (4:31). When you are full of the Holy Spirit of God you will speak the word of God with boldness. We should not allow Satan or his demons to silence our lips. The consequences of the "silenced testimony" are too undesirable to let the "devil get our tongues." In spite of threats toward the disciples, they made it plain to the Sanhedrin they could not help themselves; they must bear testimony to the crucified but risen Savior.

I. If We Don’t Speak Up The Savior Will Be Grieved. God has ordained that he use men to bring other men to the cross (Jn. 1:15).Fatalists do not witness, but must because people will not hear without a preacher (Rom. 10:14). If we do not speak up, it is active rebellion against the plan of God for the salvation of lost people.

II. If We Don’t Speak Up The Sinner Will Stay Lost. What a blessing to view how Andrew went to his brother Phillip and brought him to the Lord Jesus. If the sinner is not aware of the claims of the Gospel, then he will not come to the Lord Jesus. That is clear in the New Testament account of Phillip and the enuch (Acts 8). When the eunuch heard, he wanted to believe on Christ and then be baptized.

III. If We Don’t Speak Up Satan Will Be Pleased. The devil does not want the truth to be known. Through our witnessing people are brought from the kingdom of darkness ot the kingdom of light (Col. 1:13). That brings about the opposition of Satan as proved by his work in the religious leaders of Peter and John’s day.

IV. If We Don’t Speak Up Saints Will Be Disappointed. There is no doubt people in heaven wanting us to speak to their loved ones concerning their sin and the power of Jesus Christ to saved.

V. If We Don’t Speak Up Serenity Will Not Be Ours. The peace of God comes as we do what we know we should do (Phil.4:9).
