GOING FORWARD
TEXT: Joshua 3:1-17
TEXT: (Joshua 3:3) "And they commanded the people, saying, When ye see the ark of
the covenant of the LORD your God, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then ye shall
remove from your place, and go after it."
INTRODUCTION: There is a time to stand still (Isaiah 40:31). There is a time to
advance (Matthew 28:19, 20) (Hebrews 6:1). In this chapter God commanded some of the
people to stand still and others to go forward (Joshua 3:17). Let us look at some of the
requisites and purposes for going forward with the Lord.
I. GOING FORWARD OVER A NEW PATH (Joshua 3:1-4)
1. With their eyes on the ark of the covenant.
II. GOING FORWARD WITH A CLEANSED LIFE (Joshua 3:5)
III. GOING FORWARD THROUGH SEEMINGLY IMPOSSIBLE
CIRCUMSTANCES (Joshua 3:6-11)
1. The presence of the Lord.
IV. GOING FORWARD TO REVEAL THE COMPASSION AND
POWER OF THE LORD (Joshua 3:12-17)
2. A power of the laws of nature is revealed.
CONCLUSION: When we go forward, it must be in obedience to the
command and in the power of God.
