"Preach The Word"

The Fragrance Of Flowers

I was recently reading in World’s Bible Handbook and found some interesting truths on the flowers of the Bible. As you read in the Song of Solomon, there is the scent of flowers, blossoms and various spices. Flowers in the Bible speak of different things in the Christian life that are important for us to notice. When we think of flowers, most of the time we think of beauty and fragrance. Enjoy the wonderful symbolisms and pictures of the Bible. I never cease to be amazed at its truths. Here are some of the various kinds of flowers and what they say to us.

I. Scented Flowers- See Song of Solomon 1:12; 4:13,14 and compare with 2 Cor.2:15a. The Bible says, "We are unto God a sweet savor of Christ." Our lives are to be like a sweet fragrance that exhales unto God. The sweet smell of flowers brings gladness to their owner.

II. Living Flowers- Compare Matt.6:28,29 with Jn.10:10. Living flowers speak of the abundant life we have in Christ. The word "abundant" comes from a word that means –"to go beyond." It can mean-"exceedingly abundantly above." Our lives are far beyond the mere human plane, due to the spiritual element involved in them.

III. Blossoming Flowers- Look at Isaiah 35:1-2 and compare those verses with Psalm 107:2. That speaks of "testimony." We are to bloom where we are planted. There are some folks who think if they were just somewhere else they could bloom better, but be productive where you are for the glory of our God. Bear witness of His greatness, grace, and goodness. You are not where you are by accident.

IV. Trusting Flowers- Read Luke 12:27 and look at Proverbs 3:5-6. The flowers do not worry, work, or weave and yet the adornment of rich King Solomon was nothing, when compare with the beautiful flower. We are to trust God and acknowledge Him daily in life.

V. Growing Flower- Compare Hosea 14:5 with 2 Pet. 3:18. Anything that does not grow in some way is dead. May we ever grow in the grace and knowledge of Christ.

VI. Flower Of Brevity- Look at Job 14:2 and 2 Tim. 4:6-7. The time of our departure from this life may come sooner than we think. We must make wise use of our time since there is so little of it

VII. Flowers Of Resurrection- Song of Sol.2:11,12 & 1 Jn.3:1,2. Since Jesus rose, then it is sure we will rise and be like Him.
