Text: John 3:1-16 Introduction: Here are five things about Nicodemus and his quest for eternal life.
I. HE WAS A RELIGIOUS MAN - VS. 1 He was a Pharisee and we know that the Pharisees were one of the chief religious sect of Jesus day. A. Religion without Christ blinds folks (Acts 9 - Paul). B. Religion without Christ binds folk (Catholic church Camelites).
II. HE WAS A REFINED MAN - VS. 1 He was a ruler of the Jews or a member of the Sanhedrin courts. When Joshua led the children of Israel into Canaan, Judges were set up and out of the Judges came the Sanhedrin court, 70 of the most religious and refined men of every generation. A. They ruled in Moral issues. B. They ruled in Ministerial issues. (They tried and condemned Jesus).
III. HE WAS A REGENERATED MAN - VS. 2 He came to Jesus by night. People dont come to Christ unless they are regenerated and quickened by the Holy Spirit. A. Regeneration Reproves the sinner - John 16. B. Regeneration Reveals Christ to the sinner.
IV. HE WAS A REWARDED MAN - VS. 5-16 He was rewarded by hearing some of the greatest truths ever presented to man. A. He heard about the Water - vs. 5. B. He heard about the Wind - vs. 8. C. He heard about the Way - vs. 16.
