Readings: Gen. 1:1; John 1:14; 1 Jn.1:1-3 Text: Gen.1:1 "In the beginning God." Introduction: Dr. W.H. Fitchett in his book, The Beliefs of Unbelief, says that "God cannot be...proved in terms of logic." Yet, because men are what they are there will always be an insistence of evidence of what the Christian believes. Peter charged scattered and persecuted Christians to "be ready to give a reason" for the hope that was in them (1 Pet. 3:15); and we must be ready also to give an answer as to why we believe in the fact of God. There are: I. The Recognized Arguments of Natural Reasoning A. The Cosmological Argument B. The Teleological Argument C. The Anthropological Argument II. The Verified Assumptions of Biblical Revelation (Heb. 11:6) A. God Eternally Exists (Jn. 1:1-2) B. God Exclusively Creates (Gen.1:1) C. God Effectively Redeems (1 Jn. 1:2) III. The Personalized Affirmations of Spiritual Relationship (Gal.4:6) A. Indissoluble (Jn. 1:1-2) B. Incomparable (Ps.27:10; Isa. 49:15) C. Ineffable (Ps.27:10; Isa.49:15) Conclusion: We have seen from the recognized arguments of natural reasoning, the verified assumptions of Biblical revelation, and the personal affirmations of spiritual relationship that there is every ground for a personal faith in a personal God. Do you believe the fact of God? SERMON FROM DR. STEPHEN OLFORD
