PRAYER

TEXT: LUKE 18:1

INTRODUCTION: Our Heavenly Father is anxious to hear and answer our prayer.

I. PRAYER MAKES US REALIZE GOD'S PRESENCE.

A. Brings fellowship. (I John 1 :7a)

1. Is desirable.

2. Is delightful. (psalms 16:11)

B. Brings faith. (psalms 25:2)

1. A trusting heart.

2. A triumphant hope. (Romans 8:25)

C. Brings freedom.

1. From fears. (Hebrews 13:5-6)

2. From foes.

II. PRAYER CAUSES THE RELEASE OF GOD'S POWER.

A. Power over self.

1. Character of self. (Romans 7:18)

2. Cure of self. (Galatians 2:20)

B. Power over sin.

1. Sin should not dominate the Christian. (Romans 6:14)

2. Sin should not deflect us off course.

C. Power over Satan.

1. Recognize that he is defeated foe. (John 16:11)

2. Rejoice in fact that he is doomed forever. (Revelations 20:10)

III. PRAYER REASSURES US OF GOD'S PROMISES.

A. He promised to hear us. (I John 5:14-15)

1. Never preoccupied with other things.

2. Never postpones, but always on time.

B. He promised to help us. (Hebrews 4:16)

1. Secure in our Savior.

2. Sighing changed to singing. (Psalms 100:2)

C. He promised to honor us.

1. God's enemies shall be erased.

2. God's elect shall be exalted. (psalms 28:9)
