A ONE-MAN FINANCE COMMITTEE
And Jesus sat over against the treasury and beheld
how the people cast money into the treasury . . .
Mark 12:41
Jesus interested in money matters. He knew giving reflected
spiritual state of people.
1. He had a right to see. What they had was actually His.
2. He did it deliberately so they could know He did it.
3. It was comprehensive. He noted all their gifts.
Rich as well as the poor.
a. It indicated that God expects people to give.
b. The size of the gifts was noted.
c. The attitude came in for attention.
d. Even Jesus was blessed with the widow's gift.
(1) He found her motive to be for the glory of
God.
( 2) Not given by constraint.
e. Jesus appraised her gifts not to her but to the
disciples. Is He appraising our gifts today?
(1) "More than all." Compared to what others
did.
( 2) "All she had." There is computation.
( 3 ) "Even all her living." Giving her living
(life).
The words "all that she had," describes her giving. Now, then,
how she gave:
I. She gave in joyful love. Came from her heart. Love
giving brings prosperity to the soul. Withholding brings
poverty.
II. She gave in faith. She was telling the world that she
trusted God far her next day's needs.
III. She gave without embarrassment and fanfare.
A. No embarrassment even though gift was small.
B. No "I'm giving everything I've got" publicity. That
is giving like the Pharisees—with fanfare.
IV. "She gave her all." Out of her poverty she gave.
A. This is a call for complete surrender and a call to
come and follow Him.
B. Jesus is sittinng over against the treasury tonight
to see what you are giving Him, not only in money,
but in time, talents, devotion, witnessing, etc.
What are you placing in His treasury?
