THE SIN OF COMPROMISING
Stand therefore .. . Eph. 6:14.
Satan fights to keep gospel from men. He blinds, deafens,
and confuses them. When he can't hold them, he battles
to keep professors in the carnal realm of living. He
wants no really victorious Christians. Compromising is
his secret.
I. What is compromising? Am I guilty of it? Webster
"A settlement by arbitration or consent reached by
mutual concessions."
Tempted to compromise on the Word, to please others,
fear the disapproval or ridicule of others, or making
unwise concessions.
II. Compromising illustrated. Exodus 8 to 10.
A. Pharoah says "worship in the land." Don't leave
Egypt. Why go to extremes? Why make a radical
break?
B. Don't go far away." Ex. 8: 28, 29.
Don't go and burn all your bridges behind you.
C. Go and serve God but leave your children.
Parents half-heartedly go to church but let children
go into dancing and worldliness without a battle.
D. Go, but leave your flocks and herds. Be religious,
but don't let it interfere with your business practices.
E. It is illustrated in Num. 33:51-56. Israel to destroy.
Second scene: Judges 2:1-3. "They shall be a
snare . . ."
III. The fruits of compromising. Means weakness and defeat.
A. Compromising not so bad in our weakness, but it
hurt Samson, and the Children of Israel.
B. Compromising means grief. Holy Spirit is grieved
and when He is we cannot be happy for He is in us.
C. Compromising is sin—a seven-fold sin.
1. It is a sin against God. We pull down flag.
2. We sin against Holy Spirit who is our victory.
3. We sin against ourselves.
4. We wreck our testimony for God.
5. We sin against our families and friends.
6. We sin against the church. Light shines less.
7. We sin against our nation. Not good citizens.
