TO HIS OWN PLACE
That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship,
from which Judas by transgression fell, that he
might go to his own place. Acts 1:25.
This is part of the prayer offered for guidance in the selction
of a successor to Judas.
It is suggested that seven words beginning with "D" will sum
up the carrer of Judas:
1. His desire—to put his hands on money. Even sold Jesus.
2. His discipleship. "He was numbered with us, and had
obtained part of this ministry." Acts 1:17. Opportunity.
3. His disinterest in souls, the poor, the children—always
interested in money.
4. His dishonesty. He was a thief. No honesty or truth.
5. His disloyalty. Peter says of him that he was "guide to
them that took Jesus." Joseph's brethren, Achan were
disloyal to brother and nation respectively. Belshazzar
disloyal to better judgment. Pilate was disloyal to wife's
pleading, but Judas was disloyal, with more light than
almost any person had ever had.
6. His despair. "I have betrayed innocent blood."
7. His destiny. "Went to his own place."
Everyone has his own time and eternity:
I. The Christian has his own place:
A. Of witnessing.
B. Of living faithfully.
C. Has his own place in death. "With the Lord.
D. Has place in second coming. "Caught up to meet
Him ."
E. Final place is heaven.
1. We go because Christ shed His blood for us.
2. Because the Holy Spirit convicted us.
3. Because we repent of our sins.
4. Because of our faith in the Son of God.
5. Because our names are written in the Book of
Life.
II. Sinner has his own place. Of condemnation, under
wrath, "everlasting punishment." You sign own death
warrant.
III. Christ has . His own place. "At right hand of God." He
is interested as in Stephen's case, interceding for us,
and inviting sinners to come to Him.
