THE ANGER OF GOD
And the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel.
Judges 10:7.
For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons
of Jacob are not consumed. Mal. 3:6.
I would rather preach on God's love than His anger.
I would rather preach on heaven than hell.
I prefer to preach on salvation, rather than damnation.
But the Bible message must be preached. And there is an
anger that is righteous, as well as sinful anger. Read Ps.
37:8; Prov. 16:32; Eccles. 7:9; Matt. 5:22.
Moses, great man of God, made a mistake in anger at Horeb.
Elijah confronted Ahab in anger—but it was righteous.
John the Baptist had righteous indignation with Herod.
Paul in Acts 23 in anger called the high priest, "Thou whited
wall."
I. Why God became angry:
A. They served idols. " . . . and served Baalim, and
Astaroth, and the gods of Syria... "
B. They turned to evil. Rom. 1:18; Eph. 5:6.
C. Angry because they despised His goodness.
D. Because they failed to serve Him. "Served not
Him."
E. He became angry with Miriam and Aaron, for
murmuring against Moses, and at Aaron for making
golden calf.
II. The result of His anger: God does not cast out His
people forever, nor does He disown them. Does not . hate.
A. He does chasten those whom He loves.
B. It is not pleasant, unless sorrow, pain, tears, and
death are pleasant.
III. The way to peace and joy. After 18 years of castening
they cried: "We have sinned against thee, both because
we have forsaken our God, and also served Baalim."
They turned away from strange Gods and served the
Lord.
They turned from their disobedience.
