"Preach The Word"

HOW GOOD IS GOD?

The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble
and He knoweth them that trust in Him. Nahum 1:7.
A "good" person is a person meeting our personal requirements,
usually. Really, how good is God?

I. He is good, for He takes notice of our troubles.
A. He is a stronghold, giving us protection.
B. He is a friend: "He knoweth them that trust in
Him."
C. He is our Father. Great song: "My Heavenly
Father Watches Over Me."

II. He is good enough to use weak mankind—to let us be
co-laborers with Him. We are vessels in the Master's
hand. II Tim. 2:21.

III. God is good enough to love and save every rebellious
sinner who comes to Him through Christ. I John 4:9-10.

IV. God is good enough not to let sin go unpunished.
A. Jonah preached to Niniveh and the people repented,
now Nahum is sent to Israel in their newer sin
and idolatry to preach destruction to them.
B. God is a God of love—and a consuming fire. Nahum
1:2-3.
C. John the Baptist in John 3:36: "He that believeth
on the Son hath everlasting life, and he that believeth
not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath
of God abideth on him."
Nahum says : "The mountains quake at Him, and the bills
melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, yea,
the world and all that dwell therein. Who can stand
before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness
of his anger? his fury is poured out like fire, and
the rocks are thrown down by Him.".
