IS THIS REVIVAL?
And when all the people saw it, they fell on their
faces: and they said, The Lord, he is the God; the
Lord, he is the God." I Kings 18:39.
Greatest need in America is revival in inactive and lukewarm
churches. Revivals are needed because:
1. God's people have lost sight of God.
2. Professing Christians are compromising with the world.
3. World confused by deadness and failure of God's people.
4. Because souls need to be led to salvation.
Revivals are not great crowds, singing, preaching, offerings,
additions. What, then?
I. Revival is recognition of our position before God.
A. Recognition of our relationship to God.
B. Recognition of sin in one's life. Job, Moses, David.
C. Of your failure in service to God.
D. Of your distance from God. "Draw nigh to God . . ."
1. Friendship with world puts distance in.
2. Neglect of Bible study does, too.
3. Failing to pray has hurt many a Christian. If
it will take an emotional experience to make
you feel the presence of God you are to far
away.
II. Revival is repentance before God.
A. Recognition and then repentance as in Peter.
B. Must be a turning away from it. Hezekiah broke
idols.
III. Revival is a return to God
Elijah met people on Mt. Carmel and people came to
God.
A. It is drawing so near that we feel His presence.
B. It is a return to spiritual exercises.
C. It is a return to the reading of His Book.
D. Return to the first work—witnessing.
IV.. Characteristics of a real revival
A. It is personal.
B. It is noticable.
C. It is contagious. Spreads from heart to heart.
"Where is the blessedness I knew when first I saw the Lord?
Where is the soul-refreshing view of Jesus and His Word?"
