God Is Trusting Us
Study #2 In Timothy
Text: 1 Tim. 1:11-16
1 Timothy 1:11-- "According to the
glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust. 12
And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he
counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry; 13 Who was before a
blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because
I did it ignorantly in unbelief. 14 And the grace of our Lord was
exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. 15 This is
a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus
came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. 16 Howbeit for
this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew
forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter
believe on him to life everlasting."
Introduction:
We often talk about trusting God.
We should do so but there is another side to this matter. How must can God
trust us with His Gospel?
Can He trust us to put it
to work. It is not good for anything just to sit and not be used.
Note:
You can have a Ford built
4.6 litre powerhouse but if you don’t crank the car and put the powerful
motor to work, it does no good. You should crank the motor up and let it
work. That is what it was designed to do.
Paul said he was set for
the defense of the the Gospel.
How do you defend the
gospel? You turn in loose and let it go to work, just like you would a
strong, mighty lion.
It often troubles us when
we have to disappoint others, but what should trouble us most is when we
disappoint the Lord. Paul did not want to disappoint the Lord Jesus.
The gospel was committed
to Paul’s trust.
"Commit"
here is a banking term.
I commit most of the check
I receive each week from the church in the bank. I make a
"deposit" a certain amount of funds for them to take care of for
me.
A husband should be able
to trust a wife.
A wife should be able to
trust her husband.
Parents should be able to
trust their children.
Children should be able to
trust their parents.
God is trusting me and
you.
We are not all preachers,
but we are all to use
the Gospel to point
sinners to Christ.
Notice several things in
the context of this trust that is mentioned:
I. Partners-
v.12 "I thank Jesus my Lord"
A. He enabled me (v.12)
"
B. He counted me (v.12)
"faithful"
C. He put me (v.12)
"into the ministry"
II. Past
A. What He Did
1.Blasphemed
2.Persecuted
3. Injured
B. What He Discovered
did what he did ignorantly
in unbelief
C. What He Declared
1-Need for grace
2- Need for faith
3- Need for love
III. Proclamation v.15
A. Christ "that Jesus
Christ"
B. Condescension- coming
down
C. Condemnation- save
sinners
D. Chief- of whom I am
chief
IV . Partaking
v.16 Obtained mercy
God bypassing what we
deserve and giving us his goodness and kindness.
V. Purpose
"Might show forth all
longsuffering for a pattern"
You that sow know what a
pattern is because you have used one.
A. Shows proper response–"believe
B. Shows perfect plan-
"Pattern"
C. Show Personal Desire-
"Believe on him unto everlasting life."
Conclusion:
If God is trusting us to
give out His gospel , then let’s not disappoint him.
Have you ever sent a child
out to do something and they did not get it done? It will disappoint you.
Don’t do that to God, you know what it is like because some of you have
been there
You gave your child life,
so you expect them to not betray the trust you put in them.
