Why I Preach The Resurrection of Christ
Read 1 Cor. 15:1-4. A good part of the message of the
Gospel focuses upon the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ from the
dead. All of the Gospel writers, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, end their
first four books of the New Testament with the account of the resurrection
of our Savior. Dr. Charles Ryrie says Matthew emphasized the resurrection
as proof of all Christ taught (28:6–"as He said"), Mark
accentuated the appearances of Christ as proof of His resurrection; Luke
connects the resurrection with new understanding of truth (Emmaeus
disciples) and a new pattern of life. John had in mind that the
resurrection was proof of the deity of Christ. No human actually saw Jesus
rise but human beings who knew the Lord Jesus did testify the tomb was
vacated and they saw the Christ who arose in post resurrection
appearances. We should declare that Christ has risen with all confidence
and assurance in the validity of His rising. Let me give you some reasons
why I preach the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
I. Because It is Required By The Bible- If you read
1 Cor. 15:3,4, you will discover that a part of the true Gospel is Christ’s
resurrection. When a person preaches that Jesus died, he cannot stop
there. A dead Savior cannot save; it takes one who is alive–and He is
alive and seated at the right hand of the Father (Heb.8:1).
II. Because It Is Revealed Through The Prophets-
When Peter preached at Pentecost, he quoted Psalm 16:10 and said,
"Thou shalt not suffer thy Holy One to see corruption" (Acts
2:27). It is also quoted in Acts 13:35. The resurrection of Jesus was
foretold in the Old Testament. Since that is true, it should have been no
surprise.
III. Because It Was Real To The Apostles- Paul
preached it (Rom. 1:4, Rom. 6:5, 1 Cor.15:3,4). Peter preached it as well
(1 Pet.1:3 & 1 Pet. 3:21). John preached a risen Christ and had a
glimpse of Him in Revelation Chapter 1. They were timid before the
resurrection and were afraid, but after they saw the risen Christ, they
died for their faith. The contrast in their behavior and attitude is proof
He’s alive.
IV. Because It Is Revealing in Its Content- It
reveals that Christ has power over death. If we are in him we need not
fear death (Jn.14:9).
V. Because It Is Relieving In Its Results- It takes
away the fear of
