I Timothy 4:12-16 Introduction: ! We have mentioned in past messages just how fond Paul was of Timothy.! Paul was a mentor, and basically handed his ministry over to Timothy when he died (2 Tim. 4)! Here, Paul gives Timothy instructions regarding making the most of his ministry; we as a church would do well to put these three principles into our ministry here! ALL OF US ARE MINISTERS!!! Cannot stress this enough!
I.BE VISIBLE v. 12 A."Be thou an example" -- we are the best examples when we are seen by others! What people see is what they tend to remember! Why I am picky sometimes in services!B.Visible in our talk-- "word - what we say" - v. 12C.Visible in our walk -- "conversation - what we do" - v. 12D.Visible in our love -- "charity - how we treat others" (1 Cor. 13)E.Visible in our faith -- we believe SO strong we share with othersF.Visible in our testimony --"purity"-- Titus 1:15
II.BE VOCAL v. 13 A.Vocal in preaching the Word -- "reading" -- Romans 10:17; 10:14 C.Vocal in proclamation (witnessing) -- "exhorting" 1.exhorting = encouraging 2.exhorting= waming; cautioning B.Vocal in our doctrine -- what we believe 1.Why? Because the truth is being distorted - 2 Timothy 4:3 2.Why? So we can present a defense of the faith - Titus 1:9 3.Why? As an example of our faith; we really believe what the Bible says!
III.BE VIGILANT v. 14-16 A.Don 't neglect our gifts -- v. 14B.Don 't neglect our duty our commission; Mark 16:15 - v. 15; "give thyself WHOLLY to them"C.Don 't neglect our beliefs -- v. 16To be a healthy, thriving church requires all three of these things! Corporately and individually -- let us all develop the right philosophy of ministry!2 John 1:7-8 7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. 8 Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward. If a difference is to be made, it is up to us--the body, the bride of Christ-- THE CHURCH!!! Titus 1:15 15 Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled. Romans 10:17 17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:14 14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? 2 Timothy 4:3 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; Titus 1:9 9 Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers. Mark 16:15 15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. SERMON FROM PASTOR TOM FELLOWS |
