RUNNING THE CHRISTIAN RACE
: Heb. 12:1-2
1. The word: "Wherefore" sends us back to Chapter 11 and
the heroes of faith.
2. We don't have to die for Jesus! He died for us...
3. To win the race, we must lay aside the weights, and
keep our Eyes on JESUS CHRIST..
4. There are several things of importance in this second
sermon.
I. THE RUNNER IN THE RACE HAS PRESSURE
A. The runner is surrounded by spectators. vs. 1
1. by this, I mean our Peers who live with, and around us.
2. Also, we have to do things we don't normally do.
3. the world is watching us, run the race as Christians.
B. The runner is Suppressed by spectators. vs. 1
1. the word suppressed: = to keep us back or hid.
2. we are compassed about...watching us but not involved
now, because they have already had their day.
3. * You know what Super Sunday Is, I Hope? The Super
Bowl. People will stay home and watch the super bowl.
4. We need participants...blessings are in the race.
5. we need to get excited for Jesus.
C. The runner is Surveyed by spectators.
1. to see how good we are.
2. we don't need to audition: All it takes is a Christian.
II. THE RUNNER HAS A PURPOSE IN THIS WORLD.
- We need Goals and Aims, and win them.
A. There is a Cost. Cost God His Son. Cost Jesus His
Life. But Salvation is FREE.
1. The price we pay: Lay aside every weight and the sin..
a. lay aside worry: b. gossip: c. [drivers can't stop
the race and talk.
2. The penalty: vs. 1
a. sin that besets us: those that attack you from all
sides.
b. discouragement.
3. Perserverance: vs. 1 run w/patience/continue on...
III. THE RUNNER HAS PROTECTION IN THIS WORLD. VS. 2
* ""Looking unto Jesus:"
1. Look no other place. 2. There is no other Savior!
3. Jesus is the Person to follow!
4. He has power to clear the way and to control the race.
A. Our Goal Is Jesus !!!
B. He Is The All Sufficient Savior.
1. Our sight is to be fastened on Him during the entire
course of the Christian life.
2. Jesus is the Originator and Perfector of our faith.
3. He is the Supreme example of steadfast faith. "Who for
the Joy that was set before Him, endured the cross
lightly esteeming the shame,
4. Jesus WON the Race, and is set down at the right hand
of the throne of God."
5. His example is the antidote for discouragement.
6. His struggles were infinitely greater than ours, yet He
was victorious.
