THE CHURCH TEACHING --PREACHING THE
GRACE
OF GOD
Titus 2:10-15
1. Paul expands the meaning of the word Saviour that
he used in vs. 10.
2. He explains what is involved in salvation through
Jesus Christ.
3. The emphasis is on the Doctrine of Grace, Gods
lavish favor on underserving sinners.
4. Analizing vs. 11-14, reveals three wonderful min-
steries of the Grace of God.
I. WE, AS WELL AS THE CRETANS WERE REDEEMED BY GOD'S MARVELLOUS GRACE. 11-14
A. People then, nor today could save themselves.
B. Gods grace had to bring salvation to lost man.
1. We did not discover salvation, nor grace, like
Columbus discovered America.
2. Grace/salvation appeared by the person and life
death, and resurrection of Jesus.
3. God in His grace sent Jesus, His Son to redeem
us who were lost in sin.
C. Paul explained salvation further in vs. 14.
1. Jesus gave himself for us:
2. Which means He became our substitute-
3. Word: redeem, means to set free-by paying a price
4. As I said, we were slaves to sin, and could not
set ourselves free.
5. but you see, Jesus gave Himself as the ransom or
payment for out sins.
6. We have been redeemed from all iniquity.
a. Sin should no longer master our lives.
b. Don't forget the context of these verses in
Paul's counsel to Titus was to teach/preach to
the slaves in Crete, the Grace of God.
c. Iniquity means lawlesness:
d. In our lost condition we were rebels agains
Gods law.
II WE WERE REFORMED BY GODS GRACE vs. 14b
A. Salvation is not only a setting free from sins
slavery.
* But , a change in attitude, ambitions, actions,
and appetite; changed from worldliness to godliness
B. We are disciplined by Grace.
1. trained to be the kind of people that glorify God.
2. we deny ungodliness (whatever is unlike God) and
worldly lusts.
3. the verb means that we do it once for all.
4. "soberly" is self control - restraint - this is
our relatlionship to ourself.
5. righteously deals w/our relationship to others.
6. Godly: is our relationship to the Lord.
C. Christians live in the present age - but not like it or for it.
1. We must not be comformed to it. Rom. l2:1-2
2. Neither should we walk according to its stds.Eph.2:2
D. Grace purifies us and makes us His own special possession. 14b.
"peculiar" does not mean "odd" or strange,
but a
special people for Gods own possession.
III WE HAVE REWARDS BECAUSE OF GRACE vs. 13
We are looking for Jesus to return for the church.
A..This is our "blessed hope" and glory.
B. This verse boldly affirms that Jesus is God.
C . For there is only one article in the Greek.
"the great God and our Saviour"
D. Believers should always be expecting His return
and live like those who are expecting His
return.
* That is the next great event on Gods program.
.
Conclusion:
1. vs. 15:"these things speak and exhort, and rebuke
with all authority. Let no man despise thee."
2. Even though Titus was young, he was charged to teach
all these things, with authority."
3. Not as a ruthless dictator, but with the authority
that came with his call from God, Paul and the
church.
