THE CRIES OF JESUS
"A man of sorrow, and acquainted with grief" (Isa. 53:3).
1. The Cry of the Preacher
"And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an
hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears
to hear, let him hear" (Luke 8:8).
3. The Cry of the Benefactor
"Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and
ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is
true, whom ye know not" (John 7:28).
2. The Cry of the Teacher
"In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried,
saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink" (John 7:37, 38,
39).
4. The Cry of the Life-Giver
"And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come
forth" (John 11:43; 5:28, 29).
5. The Cry of the Light-Giver
"Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on
him that sent me. And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me. I am come a
light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in
darkness" (John 12:44-46).
6. The Cry of the Sufferer
"And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli,
lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken
me?" (Matt. 27:46).
7. The Cry of the Saviour
"And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands
I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost" (Luke
23:46). 8. The Cry of the Victor
"And Jesus came and spoke unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in
heaven and in earth" (Matt. 28:18).
