God Speaks
After Death
Joshua 1:1
"Now after the death of Moses the servant of the Lord it came to pass. that the Lord spoke unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses* minister."
Death with all of its sorrow brings us so near to God. When death takes our loved ones, I believe God speaks in a real way. After Moses died God spoke to Joshua in a real way.
Three Things:
There are three things that God said that we need to grasp for our life.
I. GOD SPOKE IN RESPECT OF THE DEAD:
Verse 2
"Moses my servant is dead."
What greater honor could have been bestowed upon a person, that for God to claim him.
The greatest honor we could bestow upon this one today is to say that they knew God and was ready to go.
II. GOD SPOKE OF THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE LIVING
Verse 2
"Now therefore arise, go over this Jordan."
Joshua could not stop just because Moses was dead. There was a great work to be accomplished.
Your loss is great and the grief is deep, but God would have you arise now and do the work that your loved one can't do.
III. GOD SPOKE AS A REMINDER OF THE PROMISE:
Verse 5
"I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee."
We can rest on that blessed promise in the days ahead.
